Disclaimer: Ranma 1/two and all related characters, dead or otherwise belong to the talented Rumiko Takahashi. I'm just borrowing them for a while. No permanent harm came to any of the characters. Really. 'A Thin Line Between Love and Hate' is done by lots of people and belongs to the first person who thought it up. Fun fact of the day: Pokemon's Misty is actually called 'Kasumi' in Japan.

A Thin Line

By Icka! M. Chif

The Tendo Family house was quiet.

No fighting and insults from Ranma and Akane as they bickered.

No sounds of Nabiki making another business deal over the phone.

No weeping of Soun for his daughters lack of weddings.

No loud sounds from Genma. But then his being a panda most of the time prohibited most loud shouts.

Just the peaceful sounds from the background.

Birds chirping in the branches of trees.

Koi splashing in the pond.

Kasumi humming a little tune as she worked in the kitchen.

The tune floated out into the dining room as she walked in, carrying a bowl of rice, the second since everyone sat down.

"Oh, dear." She sighed, sitting down, glancing at her family, both immediate and surrogate with her usual calm. "It appears they've gone to go see Mom. I do hope they're happy there."

The tune picked up again as Kasumi dished some of the rice into her bowl. It was interrupted long enough for her to ask for someone to pass her the soy sauce.

No one did.

No one spoke.

No one moved. Period.

Ranma and Akane were tangled up together on the floor, motionless. They looked almost peaceful together, it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began.

This would have been a scene to bring a tear to Soun eye, if his face hadn't been buried up to his ears in his bowl.

Genma hadn't seemed to have noticed either, his panda face green and sunken as he stared without seeing at a spot over Nabiki's head.

Nabiki's head was resting on her arms on top of the table, sleeping peacefully for all appearances.

A sleep she would never come out of.

Nor any of them for that matter.

With one exception, then entire Tendo/Saotome household was dead. Stone cold dead.

Kasumi sighed once more. "If only somebody had brought back some fresh fish like I had requested..."

The sweetest woman in the world

Can be the meanest woman in the world

If you make her that way, you keep on hurting her

She keeps being quiet

She might be holding something inside

That really hurt you one day
